Paul Reuman, the manger for the company here, knows to an inch the length of any wire, and from his books we learn that from the office of the company in this city to the bank in Lead City, it is 11,900 feet; and from here to the bank in Central City, it is 10,300 feet. Paul Rewman was the busiest man in town yesterday. The storm had played havoc with his telephone wires, the weight of snow had tangled them up, pulled down some of the poles and had acted badly in general. He was at work all day with a force of men trying to bring order out of chaos, and partially succeeded, and tonight will have them again in proper condition. Rewman, Paul. Telephone Lines. Black Hills Daily Times March 29, 1884, p. 3, col. 2.
Paul Rewman was out with his gang all day yesterday, trying to get his lines, which were not cast in pleasant places, in order. Two poles that stood between North and South Deadwood, were mounted, one by himself and the other by Ed. Davis, for the purpose of adjusting the wires, and while busily engaged both poles, from being decayed, broke off like pipe stems at the surface of the ground, and poles, wires and men came down in a heap. Paul escaped without a scratch, but poor Ed. became entangled in the wires and came down in the snow and mud with the heavy pole on top of him, and for a time lay senseless. It was feared that he had been killed but he soon revived and was taken by friends to Dr. Bab****'s office, who, after washing off the blood, found that he had sustained no very serious injury, having escaped with a severe flesh wound over the left eye and a badly contused nose. He will be around again in a day or two. This accident put the force back in repairs, which otherwise would have been completed. The lines will all be repaired today. Rewman, Paul. Davis, Ed. Telephone Lines. Black Hills Daily Times March 30, 1884, p. 3, col. 6.
Telephone system is again complete. Paul Rewman and Ben Gaar, who have worked like Trojans ever since the storm struck the town, have at last got all the wires connected, and the telephone system is again complete, so far as the gulch towns are concerned.
