I am sitting here trying to imagine what life in Lead and Deadwood whould have been like for them in 1891. I have often wondered what they looked like and how Jacob Jr. and Margueritte died.
I also found some land records in The South Dakota Land Patents Database. They had a fram/ranch in Hot Springs,Fall River County.
I searched the South Dakota Archives and found them in the 1st and 2nd papers index. I requested copies of those records and am trying to find out what part of Austria they came from.

Lead Daily Call newspaper, August 24, 1925 - "Jacob Matulovich Dies; Came to Lead in 1885. Jacob Matulovich, widely known pioneer citizen and prominent in the upbuilding of this city, passed away at 4:40 last evening at his residence, 323 1/2 West Addie street, after an extnded illness of enlargement of the heart, which has kept him confined to his bed since June 15. Funeral services will be conducted at St. Patrick's cathedral Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock at a high mass service, and burial will be made in South lead cemetery. The family requests that no flowers be sent. Born in Austria, March 17, 1863, Mr. Matulovich came to New York in 1883 and to Lead in 1885, where he has since continuously resided. He was married in this city 36 years ago to Miss Annie Donovich (Bogdanovich), who survives him. Five children were born, as follows: Mrs. H.M. Sowden, of Los Angeles, Calif., Jack and Margaret, both deceased, and Frank and Rose, who reside at the family home. He also leaves a brother George, a resident of this city, and two brothers and two sisters in Austria. For 26 years the deceased worked for the Homestake Mining company, but for the past seven years he was employed by St. Patrick's parish. In 1909 he was elected alderman from the third ward, serving in that capacity for nine years. He was a member of the Homestake Veterans and Knights of Columbus and the A.O.U.W.
Lead Daily Call, August 25, 1925 - "Funeral services for Jacob Matulovich will be held tomorrow morning at 10 o'clock from St. Patrick's cathedral. The family requests that no flowers be sent."
Burial records of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Lead note that Jacob Matulovich died in Lead on August 23, 1925; age 63 years; buried on Calvary Cemetery in South Lead on August 26, 1925; The record notes that "he was janitor at church."
