Obituary Lewis M. Hough Sturgis Tribune, December 20, 1910
On Monday at 8 a.m. Lewis M. Hough passed away after 6 months of suffering with cancer of the stomach. Deceased was born at Windham, N.Y., Sept.. 2, 1842, being 68 years old at his death. He was the youngest of 5 sons, 3 of whom served thru the Civil War. He was a member of Co. F 15th N. Y. Volunteer Engineers. He was married to Anna Winfield in his old home, and from there they moved to Long Island thence to Spencer, Ia,. In 1874, thence to the jBlack Hills in 1882. Here their 8 children have grown to manhood and womanhood all receiving excellent educations. Mr. Hough was a faithful member or the M. E. church, and for over 50 years he has held a local pastors license. He has served 3 successful pastorates in the church.
He leaves to mourn his loss one brother, Byron of this city, his faithful wife, and the following children: Elizabeth Holmes of Roubaix; Nellie Bradley, Sturgis; Alice Price, Sturgis; Katherine Cummyngs, Chicago; L. W. Hough, Cottonwood; Ray Hough ofCaton; Grace Stephens, Vale, and Muriel Hough, Sturgis.
Funeral services will be held tomorrow at 1 oclock at the Methodist church in charge of Rev. Case. The GAR expect to be present in body.
Mr. Houghs exemplary Christian life as a citizen, husband and father gave him the respect of the entire community.
