John Roach last name was mispelled, at least in the newspapers, as Rorach.
I would check both spellings in trying to locate a copy of his death certificate. South Dakota death records prior to 1905 are maintained by the Register of Deeds of the county in which they died. Contact Lawrence County Register of Deeds at (605)-578-3930.
We have very little information conerning John Roach's time in Deadwood, except for a few articles at the time of his death. Other family member brother Edward (Rorach)Roach is also noted in this article.
If you are an ancestry.com member, you will find several families tracing your Roach family tree, a photograph of John Roach with his siblings, and several obituaries pertaining to his siblings.
William Roach is also noted as residing in Deadwood and may be the one in same of a William Roach noted as a sibling of John Roach from the pedigree of John Roach born 1844, Pickering, Ontario, Canada.
Contact Deadwood Public library to reproduce a copy of these articles kept on microfilm. They will charge a small fee for their services.

: Looking for any information on the times of John Robert Roach, who died of pulmonary/lung disease, on Feb. 2, 1891. He was born in 1844, so was 47 years old.
We have obituary records indicating that he left Delphi, Indiana, between 1879 and 1881. He supposedly was "contracting" in the South Dakota, Deadwood area, and was "successful." : John R. Roach was twice elected as a deputy sheriff and later was a sheriff in Carroll County, Indiana, city of Delphi. We do not know what kind of business he was associated in in SD Territory. : February 17, 1844, in Canada, possibly Ontario. He died on February 2, 1891, in Deadwood, SD. : He died on February 2, 1891, in Deadwood, SD. : Unknown, but it is thought he was likely associated with some kind of business, i.e., "contracting." A memory my grandmother imparted to me suggested he might have been involved with buffalo hunting initially. He wanted one of her sons to have a rifle he had taken with him, or purchased in SD. : We are trying to locate death records through Lawrence County means. We would be appreciative of any other information, particularly any mention of what he did, when, where, etc. : We certainly will try & donate some $$$ to the County Museum, or Genealogical Society, for any help we can be given.
