A Caucasian League was formed in Lead City 1878 by John McTigue, a mine owner. He was shot Feb 25 1878 by Ben Wadsworth and died, and so did this particular organization.

: James D. Coffin lived in Lead City from 1876 until his death on 21 Nov 1879
: His wife, Huldah (Nichols) Coffin, died in New York in 1872. James left his only son (Leon H. Coffin) with the grandparents when he headed west.
: Born in Oneida County, New York in 1846.
: He was a mine recorder, founder of Lead City, first recorder of Lead City, V.P. of the Caucasian League.
He lost an arm in the Civil War.
